DIY: Crease-less Hair Ties

WARNING: This is going to be a very photo heavy blog post!

PS: Sorry for some bad quality photos; it was getting dark so the camera couldn't pick up pixels as well.

Have you ever wondered how can you take the crease out your hair after a long day with a ponytail except from washing your hair? Well, we now have these CREASE-LESS HAIR TIES! ^^

They are super cute to wear around your wrist and it is not too tight or too loose either. This works best with ponytails and you will need a minute or two to let all the creases settle after you untied it from a bun or something. If you already knew about this amazing product and had did a bit research on it; you will probably find them (ready made ones) to be quite expensive, overly expensive! It was about £12 for 6 on Ebay when I searched them up. With that amount of money, I could have made over 100s in all different colours! I managed to make 98 out of the 7 different coloured elastics I got (3m each).

These elastics I am using are called 'Fold Over Elastics'. I bought mine off Ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251308807197?var=550264254753&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648. They were around £1.90 for 3 metres which can make around 13/14 hair ties. However, the more you purchase from this seller, the less postage you have to pay. It is only 10p extra for each additional item.

Let's Start...

The Equipments You'll Need...  Elastics, Fabric Scissors, Candle, Lighter/Matchsticks and maybe a Pen.

Measure the best length you want your hair tie to be. If you are going to wear it around your wrist, the best way is to use your wrist to measure it. You can also try one or two out first and see which size is best.

Make sure you have around this much after you have measured it around your wrist so you can knot it together.

Use the previous one you had measured for the next one and make a mark. This will make sure all your hair ties are about the same.

You can use a pen to make a mark. But just cutting without a mark might be easier and using a pen might mean you will be able to see the pen mark afterwards. Whatever you prefer to do.

Cut it apart with a pair of fabric scissors. Make sure you're not using normal scissors because it might ruin the elastics and cause more fraying.

Light up your candles and slightly burn the edges to stop fraying. Make sure you keep a small gap between the fire and the elastics to avoid burning. All you need is to have the edges slightly melted. NOT BURNT! If it start having a smell, STOP because you're burning it and stay a little further away.

Now fold your elastics in half and follow what I am doing in the photos below to create a knot. It is just a normal knot.

Make sure you pull from the elastic to the knot/ends. Pulling from your knot will make it very uneven and you'll have a lot of ends left with not much tying spaces, which you don't want.

And You're DONE! Easy Peasy Right? Why pay so much when they are so much cheaper, fun and easy to make yourself! You can also choose any colours and patterns you want.

Did You Have Some Random Short Bits Leftover?
Let's Make them into another hair tie by joining the short bits up.

Join the two bits together with their ends lined up. Like so in the photos below.

Melt it slightly with the fire like you did to stop the ends from fraying. But this time make sure you press them together when it is still warm from the melting to make them stick together like you would sew two pieces of fabric together.

Keep pressing it until it is fully cooled down. Maybe 30 secs to a minute.

It should look something like this after you pressed on it and it cooled down. It should be attached like so in the 2nd photo below when you try pulling them apart. If it didn't fully attach then repeat the steps and reheat it.

Voila! You have made another hair tie with scrap pieces of elastics! =D No wasting huh! Joining different colours together makes it pretty and unique too ^^

This is how much I managed to make out of all the elastics I purchased.

Hope you liked this DIY! Tell me and comment below if you would like more posts like this! =)
